A word about vanity publishing

And now a word about vanity publishing…

Okay, this is more honestly a rant than anything else. But feel free to let me know what you think about the subject.
So, in response to my attempts to find a physical publisher for my novel, which is currently only an ebook, I was deluged with sales representatives from vanity or subsidy publishing houses.

So, a word about such publishing.
Vanity publishing can’t really be called publishing at all. Do you know what vanity publishing is? Vanity publishing is some guy, with maybe an employee or two, and a printing press. Lots of vanity publishers run copy shops on the side. All a vanity ‘publisher’ does, is charge you a fee and print copies of whatever manuscript you give him (if you let him jack up the price enough, he may assist you with the manuscript layout) then he gives you the printed book and you are on your own. He is not a publisher per say, I could take my manuscript down to a photo copying service, pay enough, and get the exact same service (possibly cheaper).

No, anyone interested in publishing a novel is well served to avoid vanity publishers.
And now I will end my rant, thank you for reading : )
