Mystery piano in woods perplexes police

(CNN) -- Was it a theft? A prank? A roundabout effort to bring some holiday cheer to the police? Authorities in Harwich, Massachusetts, are probing the mysterious appearance of a piano, in good working condition, in the middle of the woods.

Discovered by a woman who was walking a trail, the Baldwin Acrosonic piano, model number 987, is intact -- and, apparently, in tune.

Sgt. Adam Hutton of the Harwich Police Department said information has been broadcast to all the other police departments in the Cape Cod area in hopes of drumming up a clue, however minor it may be.

But so far, the investigation is flat.

Also of note: Near the mystery piano -- serial number 733746 -- was a bench, positioned as though someone was about to play.

The piano was at the end of a dirt road, near a walking path to a footbridge in the middle of conservation land near the Cape.

It took a handful of police to move the piano into a vehicle to transport it to storage, so it would appear that putting it into the woods took more than one person.

Asked whether Harwich police will be holding a holiday party in the storage bay -- tickling the ivories, pouring eggnog -- while they await word of the piano's origin and fate, Hutton laughed. No such plans.

Harwich police have had some fun, though. Among the photos they sent to the news media is one of Officer Derek Dutra examining the piano in the woods. The police entitled the photo "Liberace."

Hold the trans fat! Girl Guides revamp chocolate, vanilla cookie recipe

1 hour, 13 minutes ago

By The Canadian Press

REGINA - A new recipe has been baked up for a much-loved Canadian treat - the Girl Guide cookie.

Girl Guides of Canada says that starting in the spring, the classic chocolate and vanilla sandwich cookies will have 90 per cent less trans fat.

The group says it has been working closely with cookie baker Dare Foods to reduce the trans fat content while maintaining the same taste.

There's no word on what changes, if any, will be made to the chocolate mint cookies currently on sale.

The move to cut trans fat in Canada comes nearly two years after the Girl Scouts organization in the U.S. announced that it was eliminating most of the artificial fat in its cookies.

The Girl Guide cookie originated in Regina in 1927 and more than four million boxes are sold each year.

Re: Odd or Good Tidbits

I know there is nothing they can do about the current Mint cookies we are selling, because they have been made, thus we are selling them. Good for the future though! Some people just give us the $4 they would buy for a box of cookies as a donation. When we sell in front of grocery stores, we tell them to take the cookies and donate it into the food bank box. Then many people win

Eau de Penn State smells of flowers, not football
1 hr 20 mins ago

BERWICK, Pa. – Fans of Penn State can smell like the school for just $60. A fragrance developer says it has made a perfume and a cologne inspired by Pennsylvania State University's blue and white colors and its campus vegetation.

Masik Collegiate Fragrances says the perfume for the school in State College, Pa., smells of vanilla, lilac, rose and white patchouli. The cologne smells of blue cypress and cracked pepper.

The company's president says the 3.4-ounce bottles of fragrance should appeal to Penn State's vast alumni and football fans.

Masik also has captured the smell of the University of North Carolina, and plans to offer scents for six other universities next year.
