Every so often we cross paths in life and meet people that make lasting impressions on us. That happened to me today.. I went grocery shopping at Publix this morning. And at Publix they have workers that bag your groceries and wheel them out to your car and unload them( which by the way other grocery stores should copy). This one young man started bagging my groceries and I asked him, your new aren't you,and he said yes mam..Right there I could tell he was different from the rest of the kids that do work there. Instead of yea or no,it was nice to hear some respect. I then asked him if he was in school, again, Yes mam.I asked College? He said no mam, home schooled. I said wow I'm impressed .I said your mom or dad, he said my mom. I said wow she did a good job so far. He then said thank you mam,
I'll let her know. For a min I thought I was talking to a Marine fresh out of boot camp .I remember my son Derek when he came out of boot camp and the respect they instill in these young men.
As he was closing my trunk he saw the Marine license plate I have on my car. He then said. Mam, Please tell whoever served our country, thank you. I was shocked. and said thank you, My husband and my son did. He said please thank both of them.
Now this may not be a big thing to some, but It made me feel so proud to know there are still kids out there that have so much respect for others. Makes me wonder if home schooling is not a bad idea. The kids are in their own environment and in the company of their parents. Instead of being thrown into the society of kids in high school and learning all the bad that comes from interacting with the not so good ones.
At the end I asked him, when you go to college do you think it will be hard to adjust? He said Mam I just need to focus on high school right now he said with a smile. You can be sure I will talk to this young man again
