Walking the path
It is nice when you can find yourself down the wrong path and can turn yourself around. Sometimes, when you start down the path with someone, you find that they've turned around and left, and you wonder which way you should go. Theme song: Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Independence Day
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
A big thank you to all the service men and women who serve their country, or who have given their lives, to protect the freedoms that we cherish.  If you have ever spent time in country where those freedoms don't exist you would appreciate them even more. With American Independence Day approaching, I just wanted to take a moment to thank these brave men and women.

U2 in Baltimore
Thursday, June 23, 2011
It was a freaking awesome concert last night. U2 in Baltimore. If you're a fan and they're coming to your town, catch the show if you can. The 360 tour is a great show.
Now all I need to do is find myself on the FanCam picture when it's posted.

SoCal
Wednesday, June 15, 2011
It is interesting to me how our senses can take us to a different place, a different time.  Hearing a certain song can take you back decades, to a specific place and time. Certain tastes and smells can bring back similar vivid memories.  What is it about a place that triggers your senses when you return there?

It can be hard to remember how a place can affect you until you go there again. But once there, the feeling can be hard to describe. Is it the sight, the sound, the smell?  It's just the feel of the place, but you know it when you feel it and it can feel so right.
I just returned from a trip to Southern California.  SoCal.  Ten days in Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Santa Barbara.  Most people have a place that resonates with them.  A place they feel most at home, most comfortable.  SoCal is that for me.  I have traveled extensively and no where else have I been has that effect on me.  Even when it's too crowded, it's perfect.  Even when the weather isn't great, it's perfect.  Maybe it's not a perfect place for you, but it's perfect for me.

Lunch at Beach House in Laguna. Drinks at Ocean Club in Newport. Halibut ceviche at Carlito's in Santa Barbara. Meeting new friends at Lucky's and Cafe Del Sol in Montecito.  The hard part is leaving paradise.

Everyone has a place that's perfect for them.  SoCal is mine.  Where is yours?

To One in Paradise

I believed in my dreams
Nothing could change my mind
Now I know what they mean
How could I be so blind

I've been through times when no one cared
I've seen clouds in empty skies
When one kind word meant more to me
Than all the love in Paradise

I believed in my dreams
Nothing could change my mind
Till I found what they mean
Nothing can save me now

The beauty of Alaska
Saturday, February 19, 2011
A crisp, sun-filled day in Alaska. Fresh powder from yesterday's snowfall has everything covered in a new blanket of white. Time to get out my camera and explore the landscape and see what images I can capture.

As large as Alaska is, it can feel like an island, so remote from the rest of the country. But the beauty is remarkable. A great place to visit, but to live here takes a certain breed. Give me SoCal any day.
