... Enter Stage Left
Thursday, February 28, 2008

Standing in the wings, eyes upon the stage,
seeing each step, each turn to face,
as actors play their parts,
each nights dance another page,
waiting to be read.

Stepping forth, into the flow of lines,
adding his greeting, hellos, those
acknowledgements of existance,
hollow as the surrounding props,
but needing to be said.

Where is the thrill that once arose,
when our parts sprung playfully forth,
as much from the mind as from the script
adlib, madlib, humor's gentle light,
shining from every eye.

Everyone now locked step moves,
the ruts of living giving no quarter,
each step falls where it fell before
old laughs dry with fear of change,
Will not even try.

Take off the masks! Turn off the lights!
this comedy a tragic drama has become,
do you not see the hidden tears?
the audience has left us here,
to plant our sorrowful seed.

Step off the stage, the show is done,
no need for enlarged persona,
its who we are that makes us stars,
and wins the hearts and minds,
of our own life's romantic lead.

A moment for my friends
Thursday, December 20, 2007

If with pleasure you are viewing
any work a man is doing,
If you like him or you love him,
tell him now;
Don't withhold your approbation
till the parson makes oration
And he lies with snowy lilies on his brow;
No matter how you shout it
he won't really care about it;
He won't know how many teardrops you have shed;
If you think some praise is due him
now's the time to slip it to him,
For he cannot read his tombstone when he's dead.

More than fame and more than money
is the comment kind and sunny
And the hearty, warm approval of a friend.
For it gives to life a savor,
and it makes you stronger, braver,
And it gives you heart and spirit to the end;
If he earns your praise - bestow it,
if you like him let him know it,
Let the words of true encouragement be said;
Do not wait till life is over
and he's underneath the clover,
For he cannot read his tombstone when he's dead.
                           - 'Do it Now' by Berton Braley

I first heard this poem as a child, my father reading it to me as he read many poems when I was young. Some were just for fun, such as Casey at the bat, others to convey emotion, such as Christmas at the Poor House. And a few, such as this, have served as reminders to me throughout life of the small things that I tend to overlook.

I have only been on this site a few weeks now, and already I've met many wonderful people. Some have only been in passing, while some have led to many interesting conversations. I did not think, when I first signed up, to be welcomed so quickly and warmly. And while there will always be a few with whom I may disagree, they have not been able to detract from a wonderful expeience.

So I wanted to stop, and take a moment to thank all those who've made my first month special. I don't want to name names, as some are not only wonderful friends, but humble too, and dislike the spotlight. But you know who you are, and I want to thank each and every one of you for chatting with a shy geek in Ohio *smile*.  Some of you have overcome amazing situations, and you make me realize how blessed I am with the life I have had so far. And that blessing is compounded now by being able to call you friends.

And for those of you whom I havent met,  thank you for your part in keeping such a fine site alive. It is the community of you all that thrives here. May everyone have a wonderful holiday season, no matter the holiday or reason for celebratoin. Stay sexy!

Day 2
Monday, December 3, 2007

If I ever make it back to the mainland, I will have to thank that old sailor who gave me the map to this island. While there are the pests that plague any lush land such as this, they are easily ignored. And with all the beautiful natives, I've got no time for anything else. Already my studies have fallen in disarray, and even taking time to keep this journal is time Id rather spend getting to know the locals. Even now, I'm heading off to a quickly growing favorite watering hole... the lovinlarge chat room. If I am not heard from, send the search teams there....

Day 1
Sunday, December 2, 2007

well, really, Day 2. So far, the natives seem amazingly friendly. They may still be gathering wood for the cooking pot, but my hopes are high. Lets hope their not just softening me up (in which case they're failing miserably, because there are definitely some HOT women on this island).
